A Fashionable Wednesday - Supermodels

I'm a girl who loved the era of the supermodels of the 90's. For their September issue, Interview magazine are releasing 6 covers of these supermodels - Naomi Campbell, Kate Moss, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Amber Valetta and Stephanie Seymour photographed by the amazing Mert Alas and Marcus Pigott.

 

NAOMI CAMPBELL : When I started out modelling, there weren't casting directors and there weren't stylists, so you just dealt directly with the designer. We were all much closer back then.

 

KATE MOSS : I lived in New York for seven years, although I was always in denial about it. Even though I had an apartment there, I always pretended I was just visiting. I do love New York but I am a Londoner at heart.

 

LINDA EVANGELISTA : I love everything about fashion. I used to stay with Azzedine Alaia until four in the morning, letting him stick pins into me because it was a dream.

 

CHRISTY TURLINGTON : While I haven't worked as a full-time model for about 20 years, I've always maintained a few relationships. Calvin and Maybelline are the two longest. I'm flattered by the offers I receive, but there's no real strategy to the way I choose what to do these days. If I'm in a good mood and have the time, I'm more likely to consider it. I needed to think seriously about the CK underwear campaign, because I knew it would be everywhere, and I wasn't sure I wanted to be photographed in my underwear now that I'm a mother. But I knew the images would be tasteful and I liked the idea of continuing a relationship with a brand that I grew up with.

 

AMBER VALLETTA : I wanted to be an archeologist at one point, but I was a little kid. I wanted to be a social worker. I don't think I really had any idea. I don't even know what would have happened to me had I not become a model. I don't know if I would have gotten out of Oklahoma. After the first summer modeling, I came home with almost as much money as my mom made in a year — after being away for about two months.

STEPHANIE SEYMOUR : I would like to see fewer actors modelling - or if they are going to model to the extent they are modelling, then I think models should be actors.

My favourite is Christy - not just the cover but the supermodel of all time!

Celebrity Home - Mike D

Hah?? some of you are probably thinking "who the heck is Mike D?" Well if you spent your youth listening to The Beastie Boys, then you know exactly who it is.

I was excited when I came across the home of Michael Diamond (aka Mike D) as I thought it would be a totally modern, cool pad but to my surprise no, it is a family friendly renovated Brooklyn townhouse. I have to admit it's not my favourite home tour I've featured as some of the furnishings are not to my liking but I just wanted to share this sneak peak into the home of one of my favourite groups.

Bryk House

I'm really enjoyed watching Bryk House on the Home channel. Have you seen it?

Bryk House is a show that features a family (the Bryks!!) and their process of renovating their 

Toronto home. The job as mainly done by the lady of the house, Danielle. Her husband Greg is an
actor  (and often is away) so much of the work, including the manual labour was left to Danielle.
She did a really great job on her home and has now launched her own design business.

The show really appealed to me because I like Danielle's design aesthetic. It's not everyone's taste 

but it really appeals to me. I like her use of whites and greys, dark floors, some industrial elements 

and wooden pieces for warmth and texture.

 

Cosy family room with lots of seating and coffee tables that are easy to move.

 

Beautifully finished crisp white painted woodwork against dark floors sets the tone of the 

home upon entry.

 

Daughter Ella sitting at the old farm house dining table complimented by modern chairs 

and great art.

 

 

The open shelving in the family kitchen are actually beams that were salvaged during the renovation. 

A great reuse of materials and a great way to cut costs.

 

 

The master bedroom has a really neutral palette that is calm and cosy. 

Beautiful features are the plush bedding and marbled fireplace.

An extra room in the home was converted into a modern ensuite. 

Again to save some costs, Danielle had the original clawfoot tub restored.

A day in Sydney

One of the reasons I wanted to move back over East to Queensland is so I was closer to my friends in Melbourne and Sydney and that hopping on a plane for a day in Sydney is a total possibility. That's exactly what I did on Sunday. A Melbourne friend of mine is in Sydney for a couple of weeks so I thought what a great chance to pop down and catch up with her and some Sydney friends. I love only being an hour plane ride away!

We started our day with a morning brunch at The Grounds of Alexandria. I've posted about it before here but it has changed a little since I was last here at the beginning of the year. The market stalls have grown as has the number of people there. You can get anything you want here - fruit, vegetables, meat, pastries, flowers. You can sit inside and have an amazing meal or grab a take away and sit outside in gorgeous surroundings.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

After our morning at The Grounds we headed out to soak up some more sunshine at the beautiful Watsons Bay. So, so nice to spend a Sunday afternoon relaxing here ...

 

  

We finished our day with dinner at The Fish Shop in Potts Point (sorry no pics). I love the classic fish and chips but there's lots of yummy dishes to choose from and it's a great little spot.

Thanks to my girls for a great trip, it was so worth it. Can't wait to do it again soon xx
