Sarah's Bathrooms

No, they're not my bathrooms but Interior Designer, Sarah Richardson.

I'm a big fan of Sarah's work and her TV shows in which Sarah shares with us the secrets of
design with a great focus on the details of the rooms / homes she designs.

The one room of the home that I love to see in any of Sarah's work is the bathrooms.
Sarah elevates her attention to detail in these rooms whether it be through the tiles she
chooses and patterns she creates or the cabinetry installed along with the use of colour.
Here's a break down of my favourite bathrooms designed by Sarah Richardson.

The wall of tiles Sarah chose for this bathroom are to die for, I am in love with them.
I would love to be bold enough to have these tiles. The finishes in this bathroom just
compliment each each other perfectly. For the vanity Sarah has refinished an old chest
of drawers, this is something Sarah does often to add a unique feel to her spaces.
I am also in love with the grey subway tile in the shower.

In Sarah's House 4, Sarah showed how to make upgrades to your new, standard builder home.
Each bedroom had it's own bathroom and in the girls bathroom, Sarah really mixed it up.
Again the use of an old vintage piece of furniture was transformed into a vanity. The tiles in the shower
were an interesting idea that I would never have thought of - mixing white and cream tiles in
a great pattern. She has accessorised with pops of pink and orange but you can see that if
you remove those, you could give this bathroom a completely different feel.

This is Sarah's own bathroom in her Summer Cottage. This bathroom was inspired by
all the natural elements surrounding her cottage yet she still made it super gorgeous.
Such luxurious elements where installed in the flooring, tiling and bath.
But there were also some pieces that gave it that more relaxed cottage feel in
the great vanity, green chair and the painted wood panelled walls and ceiling.
Such a sweet bathroom.

This great bathroom in the first TV series, Sarah's House turned out so fun.
She used a really interesting shade of green and it turned out so well with all the white.
There she goes again transforming a unique piece of furniture into a vanity.
Beautiful detail in the tiles with classic white subway with bans of green.
This bathroom isn't just for the kids that's for sure!

This is the boys bathroom from the same series as the pink and orange girls bathroom above.
Here Sarah has again shown her skill of great tile design. With the walls left painted white with a
wide grey band, Sarah has continued this look and design feature into the shower with a grey band of
tiles carrying through the shower, clever idea. The sconces either side of the mirror are very cool,
vintage industrial so it brings in a different element.
Overall I love this and I would be happy to have this bathroom as my own.

Well what did you think of that round up of bathrooms?

One thing is for sure, Sarah definitely knows how to put together a great bathroom.

Bryk House

I'm really enjoyed watching Bryk House on the Home channel. Have you seen it?

Bryk House is a show that features a family (the Bryks!!) and their process of renovating their
Toronto home. The job as mainly done by the lady of the house, Danielle. Her husband Greg is an
actor  (and often is away) so much of the work, including the manual labour was left to Danielle.
She did a really great job on her home and has now launched her own design business.

The show really appealed to me because I like Danielle's design aesthetic. It's not everyone's taste
but it really appeals to me. I like her use of whites and greys, dark floors, some industrial elements
and wooden pieces for warmth and texture.

Cosy family room with lots of seating and coffee tables that are easy to move.

Beautifully finished crisp white painted woodwork against dark floors sets the tone of the
home upon entry.

Daughter Ella sitting at the old farm house dining table complimented by modern chairs
and great art.

The open shelving in the family kitchen are actually beams that were salvaged during the renovation.
A great reuse of materials and a great way to cut costs.

The master bedroom has a really neutral palette that is calm and cosy.
Beautiful features are the plush bedding and marbled fireplace.

An extra room in the home was converted into a modern ensuite.
Again to save some costs, Danielle had the original clawfoot tub restored.

The Bryk Family - Greg and Danielle with Dempsey, Billy and Ella with boxer Lucky

Next week I'll post a little about her other show, A Bryk At A Time and show some
of the work she has done for her clients.

Martyn Lawrence-Bullard + Twitter

Today's post is in two parts.

First let's look at the gorgeous home of actress Stacey Dash as decorated by
Martyn Lawrence-Bullard on this weeks episode of Million Dollar Decorators.

So gorgeous and making wanting to make my new colour scheme for my home
grey and a perfect shade of purple.

Second part is I recently jumped on the twitter trail.
It took me awhile to get on board with twitter, don't know why maybe it was just the fear of the unknown.
But I felt that it was important to utilise this form of communication for my new business, Our Little Place.

So last night after I finished watching Million Dollar Decorators, I sent a tweet out just to say how much I loved it and Martyn's work - you know what it's it's like in this social media world, you  just put it out there!
Well I was so surprised to get a  tweet back from the man himself -
Martyn Lawrence-Bullard !
I was so happy.

For those of you who have got to know me, know that these little events and actions
in my life just get me a wee bit excited, hehe

Million Dollar Decorators

Yes, back for a second season I think this has to be my favourite TV show ( but I do have so many)
but this one I could watch for hours on end.

So here's a couple of highlights for me from season 2 so far ...

Jeffrey Allan Marks let his partner, Ross take the helm on decorating the bedroom
of Amber Valletta's Santa Monica home.
This is what it looked like before ...

And this is what he decided to do ...

Shocking Pink!

Ross used a shocking pink grasscloth wallpaper on the walls

Gorgeous view out but I don't like the chair, it doesn't work for me in this space

Pretty side table

The bedroom also has a little sitting area which he continued the theme through but not only has he put the pink wallpaper up on the ceiling is a pink and white handpainted wallpaper.
The wallpaper is gorgeous.

Just a reminder Amber is married!
I'm just not sure how long her husband will be able to live in such a pink room!
I like many elements of this room, but what I think I like the best is
that Ross has been quite bold and really confident in that choice so good on him.

Kathryn Ireland also did a beautiful Ojai home

The blank canvas before

I love the use of arches in this type of setting

The ceiling is gorgeous as is the fire place

Gorgeous sheers used for the bedroom

Kathryn who is best known for her beautiful fabrics and mixing pattern and colour
has done a good job on making this home feel a little country cosy.

Can't wait to see what the rest of the series brings.

Are you watching? Do you enjoy?

Magic City

L.O.V.E discovering a new TV show.

Magic City is set in 1959 around Miami's luxurious Maramar Playa Hotel - Magic City indeed!
Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays the main character Ike Evans, the rather cool and dashing owner of the hotel
who makes a deal with the mob to ensure the success of his glamorous hotel.

The visual styling of this show is intoxicating.
The story line is not mind blowing and you know what to expect however
it is very seductive, with period details that are amazing. Oh and the acting is just as impressive.

The cast and characters are really well put together with a lot of fairly new faces.
Along with Jeffrey Dean Morgan (remember him from Gray's Anatomy?) as Ike is,
and what I didn't realise until two episodes in that the character of Mob wife Lily
is played by Australia's own Jessica Marais (Packed to the Rafters)!
She is really good in this and worlds away from her Aussie TV performance.

Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Ike Evans

Ike with his wife Vera played by Olga Kurylenko

Vera making her way down the hotel's sparkly tiled staircase in a beautiful gown

Jessica Marais as Lily Diamond

Car love!

Kelly Lynch joins the cast as Meg, the sister of Ike's late first wife

Of course the bar needs to have the tank with swimming ladies

Not sure when it will hit our screens here but keep an eye open for it!
