A Fashionable Wednesday

You would either love her or hate her right?
Well I don't love her but I must say over the years I've started to like her just that little bit more. Is it the fact her husband is rather good looking (??) and she has a very cute family? Or that she has a successful career from doing..... welll let's just say a few different things?

But this is a fashionable Wednesday so why not have at look at her style.
The one thing about Mrs Becks is that she knows how to put an outfit together, travel in style, wear sunglasses, strike a pose and is always ready for he paps!
Sure she's made a few mistakes in the past, but who hasn't - it's fashion right!
Here's some I think she got right.

Queensland Flooding

Our blogs are usually filled with such pretty images and positivity but today I want to post about some devastating news. South East Queensland, the part of the world I live is experiencing severe flooding. Fortunately not here on the Gold Coast but in Brisbane (an hour north of here).
You've most likely heard about it on the news around the world.

I have good friends who live in Brisbane and our store in Brisbane CBD had to be evacuated today and closed tomorrow  :(

The water's expecting to rise to more than 3 metre's tonight and most likely to peaking to 5.45m on Thursday. It's just too surreal.

People climbing on the roof as there's no where else to go

If you would like to donate to the victims of the floods, click here to find out more

To all South East Queenslanders, stay safe and thinking of you all xx

Beautiful Home : East Coast Charmer

Hope you are all having a lovely weekend. I am, it's raining and stormy here and I am exhausted after a big week. What a better way to do absolutley nothing, get lost in my world of design and regroup...

Which leads me to this beautiful home of magazine editor, Paula Joye. Her and her husband trasformed their Sydney red brick bungalow into a family friendly Hamptons inspired home. You can definitely see the India Hicks inspiration too.

Suits my mood for today of relaxing...

Dash of colour

Another option is to introduce 2 coloured chairs in a different style!

Surprise - it would be yellow! But I think that would look really fresh and fun against the white, plus tie the living space into the dining area.

Mmmm, this could be a great way to introduce a bit more colour to my space!

Dining Chair Dilema

I've been making a bit of headway with my house lately (yes, I will post pics soon) and my new obsession is my dining area. No, it's not a dining room nor is it very big or grand. It's more like an extension of the kitchen that is also part of the living area (it's a smallish townhouse remember).
I currently have these pieces :

The table was a birthday gift a couple of years ago from my parents and I like it in this space so it's a keeper. I have 2 of the chairs. I bought them many years ago for an office and they were in beechwood. I painted them white and I want to keep them as I still like the shape but I also don't need to spend extra money on 4 new chairs, plus I'm doing my bit for the environment and not wasting perfectly good chairs!

So my little dilema is what do I do for the other 2 chairs?
I don't want to get 2 more of the same because then it would look too matchy match. I want to mix it up with a different style.
My orginal thought was to get 2 clear ghost chairs? I love ghost chairs at a dining table.

Over the next couple of days I will post about my thougts for this little dilema of mine (although fun) and please my stylish bloggy friends, let me know what you think!

A Fashionable Wednesday

I recently saw Michelle Williams in The Tourist (with Ewan McGregor and Hugh Jackman). Not an amazing film but it's ok and then the other day I saw a recent interview she did and I thought she seemed pretty down to earth and normal (as much as you can be in Hollywood land)! She talked about how she is trying her best to keep things as normal as possible for Matilda (and I do kinda believe she is) and then a very little bit about her loss of Heath.

Sometimes she looks really pretty on the red carpet so I thought I would have her as my fashionable Wednesday girl.

Stunning - so old Hollywood glamour in Vera Wang gorgeous yellow

Cute looks with her short dresses and shorter hair

Awww looking gorgeous with her beautiful Heath

Although she can definitely pull off a short haircut, I have to say long hair suits her much better.
What do you think?

Guest Post : Black Velvet Chair

Sarah, Thankyou so much for asking me to Guest post on your blog, “My first little place…” is one of the first blogs I “bookmarked” before I actually knew how to “Follow” someone. It is amazing to me that you find my blog interesting and of course I am honoured that you asked to write a post about my favourite chair….as chairs are my very favourite furniture item!

So my favourite chair, it is a Indian rams head chair, they sell them at Interiors Online for $1,050, however my chair was purchased from a retro furniture shop store in Redfern Sydney. Whilst walking with a colleague I caught a glimpse of a chair, it was sparkly silver and instantly commanded attention. I decided to go back a week later, to my disappointment the chair was no longer in the store…. I asked the husband and wife sales assistants
“You had a silver chair last week”
Husband “That chair sold on the weekend”
Wife “Is'nt there another one out the back?”

I am now the owner of an absolutely stunning Indian rams head chair that I purchased for the “steal” price of $250. I had the shop cover the chair cushion in a woven blue fabric, the cushion is removable so I have been changing it up and customizing the colour to suit my mood. At the moment I am loving the monochrome look of black and white stripe, I wonder what Ikat fabric would look like on the chair?

The chair sits at the bottom of the stairs and is used daily.

xxx Samie

Hyvasti Samuel

Did you know it's -10 degrees in Helsinki right now? Why is that bit of freezing information important? Well it's not really but tomorrow one of my dearest friends, Samuel is about to start his amazing journey.

Samuel is off to Helsinki to continue his interior design studies. He has an amazing eye for style, design and detail and he is going to go really far in the world of interior design and this is just the beginning.

I didn't know too much about Helsinki so I decided to have a little bit of a look at what Samuel will be in for.

I think the most exciting thing about Helsinki, the capital of Finland is it has fast access to the rest of Europe so that means lots of travel in between studying Samuel!

In terms of design, Helsinki has been named World Design Capital 2012. Helsinki excels in a broad range of design sectors including architecture, interior design, urban design, sustainable design, industrial design and communication design.

Have an amazing time Samuel.
We will miss you but are so proud of all you have achieved and what future achievements are coming your way.

Watch out design world!

So inspired... Made By Girl

One of my all time, very favourite blogs out there is Made By Girl by the lovely Jen. I've posted about Jen's last house here but she has since moved house and I am loving her new place and the work she's been doing on it.

Her style, for me is perfect! I love how she mixes the pieces she has together and the results is such a beautiful, elegant look.

The newly done kitchen looks excellent, go and look at her before at afters

Jen did the artwork herself, works so well in the space

If you haven't already, please visit Jen to see more of her beautiful house.
