Getting To Know Me

Thank you to lovely Amanda who is the lady behind Homely One. She has tagged me in the little "about me" blog game where I answer some questions about myself. I'm honoured, so here goes.

What's your favourite time of the day?
Well it's not actually the day, it's night! I'm a real night owl. My mind is the most active at night so I find creativity, inpsiration and ideas all come to fruition at this time. I also like calm and quiet of the night.

Where did you meet the love of your life?
Unfortunately, I'm yet to meet the love of my life :( Unlike so many of my fellow bloggers, I am single lady (cue Beyonce)! But I have this feeling that he won't be too far away. Trust me when I do meet him, I'll be letting everyone know!

What 3 words would your friends outside of blogging world use to describe you?
I had ask my friends Lisa and Sam about this so I could give you an accurate answer! Lisa's first words were caring, thoughtful and generous (I also liked the bubbly yet private, good combination for a blogger) and for Samuel it was kind, exacting and genuine.
(I encourage anyone if you haven't before, ask your friends this question. It's amazing how it makes you feel and is very interesting)

What country would you most like to visit and why?
There are still so many places I want to visit, it's hard to choose just one. But one I have been thinking about a lot lately is Brazil. Heading to Rio De Janeiro for Carnaval! Seems like a really intersting place to visit, culture, history and they seem to like having fun! Obrigado, my new Portugese word I learnt recently!

What is your favourite dish to cook?
Cook?? I don't really cook... It is my goal next year to practice my cooking. I don't say I can't cook because I don't really try often enough. But Pizza is my all time favourite food, from gourmet to pretty basic and I enjoy to make them. Does that count??

Salt or sugar?
Sugar! I'm a total sweet tooth, love, love lollies, chocolate... *sigh*

What are your must have make up or beauty items?
My GHD is my absolute #1, I have crazy frizzy poodle hair that must be tamed with my GHD. Apart from that I keep it pretty simple with my make-up really, as long as I have my eyelash curler, mascara and eyebrow pencil I can get on with my day feeling pretty good.

What are your favourite flowers and why?
I do love white roses, they are so gorgeous and elegant especially when in a big tight bunch. But I also love tulips, so simple and pretty.

What are your 2 worst vices... honestly?
Oooh ok... sarcasm! I tend to be a bit sarcastic at times but have learnt to watch it as some people don't get sarcasm and that's fair enough. But I've also been able to make some great friendships with people using sarcasm, using it in the right way can be a great ice breaker! What else... funnily enough this only applies to work, not my personal life. I have a tendency to over think things. The team quite often will hear me say "what does that mean" when going through my work emails!!

At what time of your life were you happiest and why?
Luckily so many times, but definitely when these 2 little ones were born. My niece, Ruby and my nephew, Charlie.

But I also have to say right now in my life I am overall the happiest I have been. Ok so I am yet to meet the love of my life but I have a wonderful family, amazing friends, a good job with a great company, new and exciting challenges for me next year. I have my health, my first little place, I get to meets lots of new and lovely people through my little blog...
I am happiest now.

It's fun to get to know our blog friends a little bit better so now I want to pass it onto these bloggy ladies and get to know them a bit better :

A little bit chic...

I die for this!

I can imagine wearing some gorgeous, chic 60's inspired dress at a sophisticated party, sipping on a martini while chatting to a handsome James Bond type man! Yes, I get all this from this snap shot of a picture... let the imagination go...

Costume dilema Pt 2

Ok, so I know I might be boring you all with my costume dilema and it has nothing to do with interiors but you are all so creative so I value your feedback. Whilst I have had some positive feedback to Margot Tanenbaum I have decided to go in another direction!

What do you think?

Alice In Wonderland / Gwen Stafani / Harajuku Girls / "What You Waiting For" inspired!

I think this will look better on me than Margot (still not Gwen quality hello!) and it's kinda cute! I will be working more towards image 3 as it will be easier to adapt.

I'll let you know what it looks like in a couple of weeks :)

Happy Monday

Hope you all have a wonderful week xx

New Blog Love

You know when you come across a blog that just clicks for you? Well I recently discovered a blog that does that for me.

Please pop over to Black Velvet Chair to meet lovely Samantha.

Costume dilema!

I have a fancy dress party coming up and I've been thinking about what I can dress up as. My first thought is Margot Tanenbaum. I love the Royal Tanenbaums and would love to dress up as her.

The problem is I have longer dark hair = find good blonde wig
I don't have a fur (faux of course) coat = no idea where I can get one in time
I don't have a Birkin = definitely ain't getting one of those!

It worked for Nicole Richie, it helps she already has the hair

How great do the Ronsons look dressed up as : Chas (Mark), Margot (Samantha) and Richie (Charlotte) for Harpers Bazaar

Oh what to do?

If you have any ideas of what else I can dress up as, please share with me...

A weekend spot in Canada

Even though the weather is beautiful and warm here today, I'd like to escape to this place. I'm really drawn to this space in Ontario, Canada.

It would be the perfect space to get away for a weekend when you need to unwind, have some time out to do some thinking or catching up on some reading and sleep.

I love white and I think this would make a fabulous weekender but I would have to throw some Missoni throws and cushions in here

I love the puppy sitting at the window looking at the horse thinking "what the....."!

A Fashionably {late} Wednesday

Today I am feeling very Missoni. So who best to include than another one of my style icons, Margherita Missoni.

My favourite, I would absolutely wear this

Beautiful

Missoni Rugs

I love it when my friends give me inspiration, it's the best kind!

It's quite obvious but I'm a neutral girl, give me white, grey, black and I'm a happy girl - but don't forget my pop of yellow. So it may come as a surprise that I adore Missoni home, it's (usually) so colourful.

Liuwa

Palm Beach

Janauba

Esmerelda

And the last rug is the one that has inpsired me. I could very happily have each one of these rugs plus many more, aren't they gorgeous?

Congrats on your new purchase Chez, I am beyond jealous x

My First Little Place turns 1

One year ago today, I started this little blog called My First Little Place! What a year it has been. I had no idea when I started this blog where it would take me. To celebrate my first year of blogging, I wanted to share some of my thoughts on it.

So why did I start blogging? Well, I bought a house! And with friends interstate and overseas, I wanted to keep them updated on my renovation progress. But then I started to find some really beautiful blogs that really inspired me and 'met' lots of other bloggers who have the same obsession with interiors and pretty things. It also gives me space from my day job, allow me to escape into another world for a little while.

What makes me stalk a blog? Simple, it has to grab me within the first few posts. It has to be interesting for me to look at. I like it best if it has a topic or if it has lots of images and inspirational sayings. What I've found very interesting is when you come across a blog with hundreds of followers, everyone loves it but it just doesn't grab me. I guess that's why there are gazillion blogs out there, something for everyone. And that is why I am unbelievably grateful and full of happiness when people follow my blog or leave me comments. If your blog is on my blog roll, it means I LOVE your blog and it provides me with huge amounts of design (both interiors + fashion) inspiration. And I thank you.

My highlights for my fiirst year as a blogger was when Nicole over at Sketch 42 asked me to guest blog. And I did a series on blogger homes where I asked a number of my fave bloggers to show us inside their own homes (thank you ladies)

My 5 favourite posts have been :
Beautiful home of Jenna Lyons
If I lived in Paris...
Photographer Style : Ben Watts
A Great Coffee Table
Simply Elegant
The White House
Celebrity Home : Sofia Coppola

I thank you for reading my blog, I am truly honoured. I look forward to my second year of hopefully bringing you a finished house, a new change for me in the near future, some inspiration and a new little series I might ask some of you to help me with. Most of all I look forward to being able to meet more of you who share the same love of design.

I'm going to see Oprah!

As you may know, Oprah is coming to Australia! At the beginning of the month you had to enter your name for the lottery for tickets to her show, and guess what I GOT TICKETS!!! At first I was like oh ok, I'm sure heaps of people got tickets but as the day has evolved and I have look into it more, not too many people did. There were 3,000 tickets available and I won - wow. I don't usually win stuff and this is a pretty great one to win.

So on December 14th I'm going to the "Oprah" house to see Oprah. Sorry if you don't get that little joke there, but she is doing her show at the infamous Opera House in Sydney.

Would love to hear of anyone else who will be going.

Beautiful DIY

Another beautiful DIY! I am all over DIY jobs at the moment and have found so many to share.

Today's is the super gorgeous Anna at Lona De Anna and the lamp she gave a new life. Check it here.

Anna picked up this fabric at Spotlight (I know right, Spotlight), so I had to get over there and got some in the orange and the blue. And to answer your question Anna, I've done nothing with them yet!! But I'm thinking to make a couple of cushions with the blue, what do you think?

Thanks for the inspiration Miss Anna xx
